It's that time of year again. The end...yet, the beginning.
I'm sitting here at home tonight on December 31st, 2017, a quarter way through an IPA, sorting through this rant I had started writing a couple of days ago.
I'm contemplating if I want to re-write the whole damn thing, edit it, or leave it as is and add to it. My decision is to add to it, which I'm doing now as I write these sentences.
First and foremost I want to start by saying thank you to everyone who is still following me, reading my posts, buying my art, commenting on, and liking my work.
Especially if you're taking time out of your day to read all this shit I'm about to write and have written.
I hope everyone had a fantastic Holiday season. I was lucky enough to get just enough time off to spend with my family for Christmas.
This year I got a job, which prior to June 2017 I didn't have for the previous 5-6 years. So this Holiday season felt very different. Last year I could take all the time I wanted. I was doing my art and driving for Lyft on my time, my dime. This year I had a schedule, not planned by me.
But in some ways this job was a blessing as well. I work for one of, if not the biggest company in the world with endless possibilities. It has created some sort of financial stability. The pay isn't great, but I must say I actually enjoy the work. And now I can focus more on my art without the pressure of having to try to sell shit all the time and lessen the need to draw, print and sell fan art, which is a subject I discuss in more detail further into this post.
Any who...I'm now ab0ut halfway through my IPA. I'm a lightweight these days as I don't drink much anymore, except for the occasional craft beer here and there. So I'm feeling it.....so let's talk resolutions.
I don't have any resolutions.
But I do plan on resetting some of the aspects of my art venture in 2018. And I am looking forward to making a few changes.
I'm starting with a change in my signature stamp. I wanted to go back to the style of stamp I used a few years ago. Big and Bold. A more fitting rectangular shape. I feel like that stamp captured more attention and got more comments and compliments. The more scripty version I've been using this past year has received no praise whatsoever.
Up next I will be placing more focus on finally making my children's book. This is a goal I had last year as well, but procrastination and the desire for perfection got the best of me. These emotions will also be a factor this year, but I feel like now I'm more grounded in a solid concept. Plus, I've rebooted my Patreon page to help motivate me to create the content. So far it's looking pretty dead over there, but I hope that over time I can convert a few of you guys to support me with at least a $1 per month.
Next up is my clothing brand concept. This has also been in the works for some time now with many failed attempts. Procrastination has also played a great role in these failures as well as lack of research.
But this year I am more determined and inspired to push this one forward.
The rest are all more micro-goals such as blogging more and maybe building up my YouTube channel. Overall, increase my online presence more and cut back on some of the Comic Conventions I have been used to doing.
Speaking of cons, I will also be cutting back on fan art. I feel like the past year I forced out a lot of fan art to try and please the con goers and my wallet. This year having a job and all, I'm not too worried about making profits at cons and shows. This way I can put more effort into promoting my original content without pressure.
So now when I do draw fan art, it will be just that....fan art. For fun and for social media use only.
Again, these are all on-going improvements, not resolutions. I'm not gonna wake up tomorrow morning stressing out over this stuff. I have all of 2018 to make a dent in these goals which are simply continuations from this past year and prior.
I think this concludes my rant. If you are following me on Instagram you will already have seen the completed stamp as I have been revealing it in chunks over the past two days.
This coming week I will be formatting and finalizing my new Sketchbook to be released on Amazon. If you are a patron of mine on Patreon you will have access to a 10 page preview very soon.
If you did read this whole thing, please leave me a comment below and I may consider doing a cool giveaway for those of you who are actually paying attention, lol.
Til then....Happy New Year!!! Be safe!!! Best Wishes!!!....
